History
CoopeVictoria RL is an agro-industrial cooperative that was born in 1943 in the canton of Grecia, Costa Rica, an area that since the beginning of the century and up to the present has within its main socio-economic activities the production and industrialization of coffee and sugar cane, in addition to related commercial activities that increasingly carried enormous weight on the structure of the cooperative
Before cooperative, since 1905 there was the Hacienda Victoria owned by German citizens, who built an industrialization plant for these products and to which the small producers in the area delivered their crops. For the decade of the forties as a result of the armed conflicts worldwide, in Costa Rica the assets of the German and Italian citizens were confiscated by the government of the Republic, this included the Hacienda Victoria which caused a situation of uncertainty for the local producers. Given this and other situations, the Center for Studies on National Problems was formed, which recommended the implementation of a cooperative in Grecia. Later through the union and the work of the farmers of the area who were looking for an opportunity to satisfy their needs and the state suppport, the Hacienda Victoria passed into the hands of the local producers for the creation of Cooperativa Agrícola Industrial Victoria (CoopeVictoria RL ), which gave way on October 12, 1943 to CoopeVictoria.
De esta manera, la cooperativa surge como un mecanismo de asociación de los pequeños productores agrícolas del área, siendo este un espacio para la industrialización y comercialización de sus productos.
This agro-industrial cooperative is organized first of all by the assembly of associates represented by two hundred delegates elected biannually in the various communities where the company has influence, these meet twice a year in a general assembly. In second place is the Board of Directors, the Surveillance Committee, the Education Committee and the Electoral Committee, which are in charge of establishing the policies and guidelines related to the development of the company.
The General Management emerges from the Board of Directors who chooses their representative for an indefinite term, who is in charge of executing the plans and policies established by the Board of Directors, which in turn coordinates the other members of the administration of the cooperative.
The Cooperative from its values and cooperative vision has been dedicated to improving the socioeconomic condition of agricultural producers in their area of influence through activities such as: timely and fair payment of the value of the products, life insurance for their producers and associates, free technical advice, permanent promotion of cooperative education, programs for new generations, protection of environmental conservation areas, production of organic fertilizer, activities under the seal "fair trade" (fair trade) and more recently the implementation of appreciation of local resources through local exchange systems, appropriate technologies oriented to the projection of the, environmental management plans, promotion of New Generations within the cooperative, among others.
